Forest atmospheres

Forest, a place to come to rest and relax. Last Sunday, I went out to get some rest. The house renovation is in full swing and I needed a little time off. I was not even in the mood to go out and photograph anything. That is very unusual.

However, I did take my sound gear with me and decided to go onto a trail that few people venture out on.

And it’s barely 20 km from my house. The ideal place to spend some time alone, nobody around, just the sound of the wind rushing through the trees and the babbling of a small stream close to the road.

Above you have the rushing wind in the trees. One could argue that this is simple noise, but there are tiny details in there that make it a typical forest recording.

Of course, I could not resist to take the sound gear out. making sure it was far enough away from my car to not record the ticking and tinkling of my cooling exhaust and engine…

After a while, my senses were calmed a little and I drove back to civilisation.

Only to come across a small stream gushing over some rocks. Again, with the car out of earshot (or mic-shot), the gear was out for a few minutes.

Here is the sound of a babbling brook over some rocks.

Enjoy the sounds when you are alone and are not disturbed. Only then will you fully enjoy these sounds…

Oh, and that freaky lead picture? That is what the spectrogram of the forest looks like. Barely any changes in pitch and no sudden sounds. All you need to relax.

Until next time…
